Closer to the Ground
There's a saying amongst musical critics and journalists, that the same styles of music become popular every 15-20 years with a contributing hybrid of influence to create a specific genre to call it somewhat different, yet the same. For example, the punk scene of the late 70's compared to the punk scene of the early 90's illustrates this cycle or the pop culture of the 80's compared to the pop culture of the late 90's and 2000's can be exemplified. Even the New Wave of American heavy metal in the early 2000's draws comparison to the New Wave of British heavy metal in the early 80's. Music scenes tend to run in cycles where the listener is always waiting for the next Led Zeppelin, the next Nirvana, the next Michael Jackson and any band or artist that has been dubbed the "next" has quickly faded into an obscurity as if they never were. However, there are the bands that spring up with no attachments, no forewarn, and no branding and they become the band that leads the avid listener of music to the excitement and belief that the vast space of their musical universal has yet to be entirely explored.
According to the pre-eminent art critic, John Ruskin, of the 19th century, "When love and skill work together, expect a masterpiece." Spero Lumina is the consummate band of musical innovation that guides the listener on an epochal journey through darkness towards a promising tangible light. It's rare when a band has a novelty of ideas that are identified, personified and transformed into music that embraces the joys and pleasures of life, yet pleads for forgiveness in the humility of their spirituality. Spero Lumina originated from Ramona, CA as 21Rest where four young boys exposed their personal struggles, their brokenness, and their turmoil to each other and embraced the outlet of music to demonstrate their confidence within themselves and their defiance to the social norm and grew into men of shared visions, memories, heartaches, ideas, and a brotherhood. The divine chemistry of Spero Lumina sinks deeper than a musical camaraderie, but the intrinsic characterization that the four of them were meant to be together.
The Band: Spero Lumina:
Aaron Rowan is the lead singer of Spero Lumina. Accompanying his infectious guitar work are his lyrics that resonates a fusion of pain and triumph. He is the emotional leader behind the music, the messenger, the narrator; the evocator of comfort, joy, sadness, perseverance, deliverance, and inspiration.
Weston Boucher takes the place as guitarist and back-up vocalist. He accentuates the musical additive that evokes fervor and euphoria within the realms of the guitar whilst steering the music into a dichotomy of eccentricity and pragmatism.
Sean Orion Antony is the sensualist of the bass guitar, with a decree that keeps the music of the band intact. His low-tonal mastery ,using the extended-range models of the five (BEADG) string bass, swings the mood of the songs from a dark fragmented state to an induced belief of hope and progress.
Brant Bolton is behind the drums. His intuitiveness towards innovation directs the music through an existing realm of controlled chaos into a soft dynamic state that implores redemption. His precision commands a motivating vigor that charges the band into prominence. In the words of Jimmy Chamberlin, "I've always seen my drumming as lyrical anyway".
